Derek is the Artistic Director and a Founding Member of Mortar Theatre Company. He recently assistant directed Free As Injuns a new play by Tara Beagan in Toronto and directed Nobody by Crystal Skillman for Side Project’s site-specific project. As an actor, Derek is currently on stage at Timeline Theatre in My Kind of Town. He participated in a workshop of Cherokee by Lisa D’Amour at Steppenwolf Theatre last summer. He recently returned from his third Canadian tour of Almighty Voice And His Wife by Daniel David Moses. Derek has worked regionally with Pennsylvania Centre Stage, Next Stage, Southern Colorado Repertory Theatre, and Montana Shakespeare Company. For Mortar, he has appeared in Inherit the Whole and I Am Montana. He graduate with his MFA in Acting from Penn State University and graduated with his undergraduate degree with a BA in Theatre Arts & Communication from Adams State College. He is originally from Denver, CO, but mostly grew up on the Reservation in Southern Oklahoma and is an enrolled Tribal Member of the Wichita Nation.
